project: SHOWCASE {creative writing} post report
Creative [SIN]ergy presented project: SHOWCASE {creative writing} on Saturday 14th of March at the Poetry Cafe. The event was oversubscribed with 50 people present to hear selected stories from Josephine, Rosaline and Johann's literary works. A diverse audience, half of which were attended by Singaporeans, enjoyed successive readings with illustrative works by Brian Chia. Josephine provided context to her work by circulating pictures of her youth in colonial Singapore, while Rosaline interpreted excerpts from her play 'Journeys' with an actress, Nina Kwok. Johann's rendition of 'Quiet Time' was riveting and prompted a futuristic perspective on Singapore's rapidly changing social values. The event concluded by a hearty Q&A session with questions further exploring the role of women in Singapore literature and the the challenges associated with writing for a global audience while retaining the essence of Singaporean expressivity.
