SHOWCASE: Ee-Ping Yee

Singapore-born soprano Ee-Ping studied at the Guildhall School of Music, London where she was initially trained as a pianist. She was subsequently awarded the Dame Eva Turner Scholarship and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Award to study opera at the Royal Academy of Music.

Ee-Ping made her debut at the London’s South Bank ( Queen Elizabeth Hall) singing the title role of ‘Mimi’ in Puccini’s La Boheme with the British Youth Opera. Other operatic roles include ‘Cio-Cio San’ in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly ( Mid-Wales Opera, London City Opera , Opera Box, IMG/Co-Opera Ireland, Grassington Festival), ‘Rosina’in Mozart’s La Finta Semplice ( Buxton Festival Opera), ‘Fraarte ’in Handel’s Radamisto ( London Handel Festival), ‘Marguerite’ in Heuberger’s Der Oper Ball ( Clonter Opera Theatre), ‘Lia’ in L’enfant Prodigue( RAM), ‘Elisetta’ in Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto ( Les Azuriales Festival), ‘Countessa’ in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro ( Palace Opera), ‘Pamina’in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote and ‘Micaela’ in Bizet’s Carmen ( Singapore Lyric Opera).

In Europe, she has been a prize-winner at numerous competitions including the Lieder Prize in the Julian Gayarre International Competition, the Royal Overseas League Music Competition and the National Mozart Compeitition.

She has been living in the UK since 1992, but returns regularly to perform with the Singapore Lyric Opera with whom she maintains a close relationship. She was awarded the prestigious Singapore Young Artist’s Award in 2001.

Forthcoming engagements include being the Vocal Adjudicator in the ‘2010 Hong Kong Music Schools Festival’ and concerts in Singapore and the Far East.
